MFW-PAN CYBERNEWS - JUNE 2005
Midwest Fiction Writers Published Authors' Network's
Monthly Online Newsletter

Glorious June!

We've been basking in clouds for the last month here in the
heartland, which makes us crazy-starved for sunshine, but
the rain has made everything around us greener than green.
Connie Brockway escaped the gloom by flying off to Greece
for a family vacation, while others of our members have
just been writing like crazy. Word is that Kathleen Eagle,
Judy Baer, Lois Greiman, and Michele Hauf have all turned
in manuscripts recently.

Kathleen finally found time to make a speaking appearance.
She and Lois Greiman drove to Lincoln, Nebraska together to
meet the librarians from Lincoln and Omaha at a lovely
full-day event called "Turning the Pages of Romance." Lois
is in a tizzy of excitement over the release of her first
mystery novel, UNZIPPED, released late last month from
Bantam. She has a newly remodeled home page to celebrate,
too. And Kathleen just updated hers. Be sure to visit
www.midwestfiction.com for links to all our authors' web
sites and see what we have cooking.

Two of our New York Times bestsellers have June releases
out in bookstores now. When you pick up a book by Susan
Johnson or Christina Dodd, you know you're in for a red-hot
read, so don't miss HOT SPOT and HERO COME BACK. And this
month we're spotlighting Silhouette author, Rosemary Heim.

As you know, we don't do photos on our e-newsletter because
so many servers block them, so please head over to
www.midwestfiction.com to see the covers and photos that
complement the book news in CYBERNEWS.

Enjoy our new books, and check out our author sites for
those oldies but goodies!

HOT SPOT
Susan Johnson
Berkley Trade (ISBN: 0425202577)

Stella Scott doesn't date customers. So when a superhero in
the flesh strolls into her comic book store, snapping up
rare editions and insisting on taking her to dinner, she
knows she's in trouble. It isn't long before Stella finds
herself revising her little rule. But while she's having a
blast between the sheets, there's no way she's going to let
herself do something stupid...like fall head over heels in
love. Hopefully it isn't too late...

HERO COME BACK
Christina Dodd
Avon anthology (ISBN: 0060564504)

New York Times bestseller, Christina Dodd, is joined by two
other authors forces in an innovative collection in which
each author brings back a secondary character from a
previous book to star in his own story. Publisher's Weekly
says: "Dodd's 'The Third Suitor,' a fast paced adventure
involving a hoyden heiress and a spy on vacation at the
shore, delivers many thrilling twists and turns. While each
story will satisfy the individual author's readers, Dodd's
has the broadest reach and provides the most entertainment
per page, doling out fun main characters, a sinister
villain, sizzling love scenes and a marvelous ending that
will make strong women cheer."

What's Rosemary Heim Up To Lately? Oh, about Cloud 8,
having settled only a wee bit after last week's
announcement of finalists for the prestigious Daphne
DuMaurier Award of Excellence. "My November (2004)
Silhouette Intimate Moments book, VIRGIN IN DISGUISE, is a
finalist in the category division, along with 4 other
wonderful writers (including Roxanne Rustand, another MFW
author). The contest is held by the Mystery/Romantic
Suspense (Kiss of Death) chapter of Romance Writers of
America. Now of course, I have to wait until the winners
are announced during the Death By Chocolate party at the
national conference in late July. This comes after a long
lull in writing excitement. My last big event occurred in
January when I had a booksigning at the Rochester Apache
Mall Barnes & Noble. Signings can be a bit scary for an
author. (What if no one shows up? What if the only person
who does show up just wants directions to the restroom?)
I've been blessed with friends and family turning out in
force for me. Which looks really good to the booksellers.
What also looks good is getting another book on the
shelves. That's everyone's question right now. When will
the next book be out? The good news is, there is a book in
the works. It's been hovering at fifty pages from
completion for far too long. That's the bad news. Like my
writing events, my writing production has definite peaks
and valleys. There are times when the words flow like
magic. And there are times when the laptop squats in its
case, jaws clenched in an oddly menacing manner. So between
now and the conference, my goal is to entice that contrary
beastie from it's lair and finish those last fifty pages.
Then, come what may, I=ll be celebrating in July.
