Monthly Online Newsletter

Sizzling Greetings From the Heartland!

Our firecracker authors happily send blazing bombshells,
family sparklers, and seven different kinds of afternoon
delights your way. All you have to do is pick them up at
the nearest air-conditioned bookstore.

In the Romance world, July means Romance Writers of
America’s National Conference, which is scheduled for July
27 in Reno this year. If you’re in the area, do plan to
attend the Literacy For Life Book Fair. You’ll meet many of
your favorite authors and get their autographs on all your
book purchases in support of a worthy cause. Visit our
"Author Appearances" page at www.midwestfiction.com for
more details. You can also see how many of our members has
made the finals in the RITA and GOLDEN HEART competitions.
The winners will be announced during the big awards
ceremony at end of the conference. Wish our finalists luck!

And now for our July books:

new life for

herself, determined to use her unique
skills for good. But to retrieve the stolen gem and keep
everything she's
fought for, she's got to turn the tables and prove the
student is now the
master...

Greetings from Hot-To-Her-Toes Michele:

Summer's here, and I am melting. Don't believe me? Check
the photo at www.midwestfiction.com;

my feet are the only remaining evidence that I exist. I'll
be sweating it out
behind the computer (no air conditioning, folks) for the
next few months as
I complete my third LUNA title, and finish my third
Bombshell, both due out
next spring. But don't worry, the toes insist on frolicking
through the
long summer grass, so I'll let them out at least once a
day.

ALMOST A FAMILY

Roxanne Rustand

Harlequin Superromance (ISBN 0-373-71284-7)

After her husband leaves her, Erin Lang figures Blackberry
Hill will be the perfect place to raise her three adopted
children and start her new career in hospital
administration. Right now, she has neither the time nor the
inclination for romance--especially not with her reclusive
landlord, Dr. Connor Reynolds. He might be intriguing, but
if he ever learns her deepest secret, her little family
could be torn apart.

And all isn't what it seems, in this idyllic little town.
Patients are dying, for no apparent reason. And then she
discovers that Connor has a few secrets of his own...

"ALMOST A FAMILY is an exciting medical romantic suspense
thriller that fans will enjoy. The story line is action
packed but filled with plenty of angst." Harriet Klausner,
The Best Reviews

"A wonderful story that will enchant you until the final
page. Ms. Rustand continues to weave emotional tales that
will leave the readers breathless and begging for more!"
Wayne Jordan, Writers Unlimited

A Note From Roxanne...

It's such fun to escape the computer now and then, and
visit with old friends! In June, The Blue Belle Inn hosted
a writers' workshop. My daughter Emily and I traveled to St
Ansgar, Iowa and enjoyed every moment at this lovely
Victorian bed and breakfast. The trip was even more
special, because Rosemary Heim of MFW, Elaine Heitkamp of
Heart of Iowa Fiction Authors, and my dear friend Lyn Cote
were speakers, also. The photo (see it at
www.midwestfiction.com) is of Emily, me, and Lyn.

THE BOOK OF THE SEVEN DELIGHTS

Betina Krahn

Jove (ISBN: 0515139726)

Abigail Merchant travels to Casablanca to search for the
remnants of the Great Library of Alexandria. There, her
quest becomes entangled with the fate of a handsome
ex-legionnaire. Arrogant, brash Apollo Smith hardly
inspires trust...but he certainly inspires unladylike
thoughts. Together they search for the remnants of the
great library, but a host of vengeful legionnaires and
greedy bandits is soon on their trail, threatening to put
an end to the sensual delights they have just begun to
discover.

"Grammie" Betina says...

A busy spring and an even busier summer ahead. In May I got
to spend two crazy weeks in Minnesota with my grandsons,
doing "Grammie" things (see our big smiles at
www.midwestfiction.com). Next year. . . maybe it will be
Disney World! In July my son Zeb is getting married and I
am working on my next Victorian romantic adventure and
waiting for the big events of mid-summer. I'm very excited
about this series, which marks a new direction for me.
Adventure, romance, and travel. . . I haven't had this much
fun writing in years! I'm also working on a women's fiction
piece born out of my experience as a widow reinventing
herself.

Changes are in the works, too. Gail Fortune left editing
for greener pastures this spring and my new editor is
Christine Zika, whom I knew in another phase of life when
we were both at Avon Books. And recently my beloved agent
of 19 years, Ruth Cohen, decided to retire. Decisions and
adjustments to make. . . ushering in a new phase of my
writing life.

Travel plans for the summer include a trip to Canada for a
remarkable reunion. My fiance Rex and his brother Robert
haven't seen each other in person in 30 years. They were
reunited via e-mail and telephone last summer after Robert
saw mention of Rex on my website! The internet is truly
making the world smaller. . . it's a wonderful,
heart-warming development made possible by this marvelous
technology! So, after the wedding, in Buffalo, New York,
we'll be heading into Ontario for a long awaited visit.

So, that is the third of three big events in July for me. .
. the first being release of my first romantic adventure:
The Book of the Seven Delights. Have a great "reading"
summer!
